Recommended Trekking Gear

Being well equiped is a major part of being comfortable in the mountains

The following clothing list works well for most people on mountain trips. If you are a "chilly" person, you may want to add some extra thermal layers to stay comfortable.

Please ask if you have any questions about any of the required items.

  • Trekking Shoes/Boots (Trail Running Shoes are not recommended). Boots should provide good ankle support, the trails are often very rocky. They need to be "broken in" before the trip to prevent blisters, it means that you have worn them long enough for the shoe to have adjusted to the shape of your foot.
  • 2-4 Pairs of wool or synthetic thermal socks.
  • 2 Pairs of First Layer Tights: These are tights that are worn under thicker tights to help prevent blisters from forming.
  • Pair of comfortable camping shoes (running shoes/sneakers, lightweight sandals, Crocs)
  • 2 synthetic t-shirts recommended (first layer).
  • 1 or 2 pairs of medium-weight thermal polyester (or equivalent) long underwear and top
  • 1 lightweight fleece t-shirt
  •  1 medium weight fleece top and bottom.
  •  1 warm fleece pants.
  •  1 down or synthetic jacket with hood.
  • Outer jacket or "shell"; Gore-Tex or equivalent.
  • Outer pants or "shell"; Gore-Tex or equivalent.
  • 1 pair of nylon hiking shorts (quick dry)
  • 1 trekking pants (nylon, quick-drying, can be the type that converts into shorts)
  •  1 pair of lightweight fleece gloves.
  •  1 wool or fleece hat
  • 1 sun cap
  • 1-2 sports bras/tank tops (for women)
  • 2 water bottles or equivalent accessory (2 liter loading capacity)
  • All personal cleaning items.
  • Basic personal first aid kit.
  • Small personal bottle of hand sanitizer
  • Headlamp.
  • 2 sets of spare batteries.
  • 1 pair of mountain glasses.
  • Sunscreen (> SPF 45)
  • Lip balm (> SPF 45)
  • Comfortable light backpack for the day (20 to 30 liters).
  • Sleeping bag rated for temperatures around 15  Degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Dry-bags of different sizes to your liking.
  • Trekking poles (recommended).
  • Thermarest type mat (recommended).

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!
